Things of man vs. God

It’s not a problem that people first come to Jesus and his church for the wrong reasons: his blessings, a partner, a community, health and wealth… we all do and so did Peter (the first disciple and I included).

32 … And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. 33 But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”Mark 8.

The problem is if we stay for the wrong reasons. As Jesus would have Peter know unless we lose our lives to live for him and the Gospel then we will forfeit our souls.

34 And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 35 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it.Mark 8.

God forbid that we should trade eternal life for mere momentary ‘blessings’. In the words of C.T. Studd; Only one life, ’twill soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last.
