Already fully and awesomely paid to work

A salary before the job

It’s only in Christian service that you get all the rewards way before you even start to work. What do I mean? Every Christian has a mandate to serve the Lord Jesus but it is a job where the rewards are already credited to they account. Obviously, like any other worker, provision is needed through God’s people but a Christian’s motivation to serve is not tied to the end month pay but from what Jesus has already done and promised.

The payment outweighs the labour

Our master, the Lord Jesus, has freely given us the greatest blessing a man could ever need, the forgiveness of sins(Psalms 32:1 Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.). He has made us an assurance to always be with us and help us as we serve him now unlike absent bosses that demand results(Matthew 28:20b). And made us an eternal promise, an unfading glorious inheritance sealed by the presence of Spirit in us(Ephesians 1:14).

Get to work

Therefore, all that we need to do is go on serving Jesus by serving the world with Gospel. We don’t serve because someone is watching but because we want to please our master who is above. We don’t need a pay rise or acknowledgement to give us some motivation to serve Jesus as we already have more than we need for an eternity. All we need to do is go out and joyfully and lovingly serve others with the Gospel as we look forward to the day our master returns to gather his harvest home.

Our motivation is that our master would be pleased with our lives as living sacrifices following Christ’s example.  And my prayer is that the Lord would be pleased by the few years I have under the sun to serve him by loving him with my mind, my heart, my soul and strength.
