Forgiveness; why should you forgive?

forgive
You probably have heard it said that forgiveness is for you. The affirmation that the reason you really forgive is because it will be to your advantage more than the other person. Well, there is a lot of truth in that but it is not necessarily why we forgive or are able to forgive others.

At the bottom line there is no enough reason to justify forgiveness. Forgiveness is totally undeserved! Letting someone off the hook when they should face judgement and pay to the last dime goes against all reason. But before we can sit comfortably on that judgement seat we remember our flaws, remember we have done worse to others and mostly to God. But what is our verdict; God gave Christ to die for the sins of the world.

Thereby, in essence forgiveness is not just about our relationship with others nor is it mainly about us; nay, at it’s core it’s about God. It is about a people who deserve God’s wrath yet are repaid by love and unwarranted justification to be called children of God and thereby called to follow the example of our Lord in relation to others and to us. To us? that sounds ridiculous yet it’s true; we need to accept God’s forgiveness even as we forgive.

So as the WORD says; “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you” (Ephesians 4:32). In doing so our fellowship with Him make blossoms and we can approach Him with no guilt at heart as holy (by justification of His grace) sons before a holy God. Blessed Sunday or do I say a forgiving day like all others, Thanks!
